This cross stands above the town of Alnmouth where Cuthbert was elected Bishop of Lindisfarne by the local synod in 684. At the time, Cuthbert was living as a hermit on Inner Farne so King Egfrid visited the island and persuaded Cuthbert to accept the position. As he approached death, Cuthbert would resign the bishopric about two years later and return to his hermitage on the Farne Islands.

Throughout our lives, God actively encourages us to recognize and accept the unique talents and desires each of us has been given. Once embraced, these sacred gifts illuminate the ways we contribute to God’s redemptive activity in the world and ignite our passion to serve others.
Consider Psalm 37: 3-6.
“Trust in the Lord, and do good;
so you will live in the land, and enjoy security.
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him, and he will act.
He will make your vindication shine like the light,
and the justice of your cause like the noonday.”
